A First Birthday Celebration | Cape Elizabeth, Maine Documentary Family Photographer

Our homes are sacred spaces. It's where we spend time with the ones we love and make many of our memories. It's a warm feeling inside us that reminds us we are accepted and loved unconditionally. It's where we grow through our struggles and changes of the seasons of life together. So anytime I'm invited into a client's home it's not something I take lightly. I am always honored to be allowed into a small window into their lives and hearts.

In March I got to visit this family's home in the greater Portland area. It was cold outside but this Maine home was full of love. Jay was turning a year old and both sets of his grandparents came to visit him and shower him with love. They did an adorable lumberjack theme and had a surprise cake made to celebrate both Jay and Kinna's father.

Maine Newborn Documentary/Lifestyle Photographer | In Home with the Readers

Last fall I met the Reader's when they attended my fall mini sessions. I always feel lucky when people choose me to capture their families and lives so I was really thrilled when Nichole reached out to book a newborn session for Henry. This is definitely one of my favorite sessions. I love documentary photography and waiting for beautiful moments to happen. Nothing feels better than getting to capture a moment that happens spontaneously and I feel even luckier when my clients get that and love it as much as I do.

I'm so excited to share these pictures, I would apologize that it's so picture heavy but I'm not actually sorry! I love the story they tell and I can't do it justice without including an obscene amount. Haha!

February Update | Maine Documentary Family Photographer

Hey guys,

I'm still here and trucking along with my 365 project. February was a hectic month (big surprise right) so I got behind on my editing and then I blinked and we were already in March. But hey, I got my act together and am ready to share my 28 pictures from February. And only a few days late. HIGH FIVE.

Have you been thinking of booking your own session?

I'm still booking in-home sessions and as a matter of fact book them throughout the year. It's still too cold (and muddy) for outside sessions but warm weather is coming quicker than we think. Here is my current availability over the next few months:

MARCH - FULL

APRIL - 1 session spot available

MAY - 2 session spots available

If you're interested in booking a session, contact me today. (go ahead and click that button below, you know you want to)

One month down, eleven to go! | 365 project Maine photographer

Phew, I made it one month into my 365 project. I am seriously shocked I've made it so far. It's already been interesting and not exactly as I expected. I've found it to be difficult (not surprising) and there were days where I just barely managed to get a shot. I feel like most of the days yielded mediocre pictures at best, but that's ok. It's not about making an amazing image every single day. It's about making something that at the end of the year, I'll be able to look back on and hopefully remember some days that I had forgotten.

So, anyway, here are my first 31 images.

Roberts Family Tree Cutting Session | Southern Maine Lifestyle Photographer

Are you ready for the holidays yet?

If you're like me, the answer is "not quite". But I'm never ready and often out on Christmas Eve like a lunatic trying to finish up odds and ends... usually stocking stuffers.. because I can never plan ahead enough to get done like a normal person.

This morning I am sharing a throwback session from last winter. It was on my old website so I'm just reposting it here. ;) I have room for ONE in home session this month. January is already booked and February only has one spot left as well.

From December 7th, 2016... A couple weeks ago, the Roberts’ family and I met up at Boiling Springs Tree Farm in Southern Maine to do a couple family portraits & then document their holiday tradition of cutting down a Christmas tree.

These guys are seriously awesome. They are such an easy going family and I was so excited to tag along. We met at the tree farm in the morning so we beat the crowds. It was a particularly foggy morning which made for a really cool backdrop in the beginning of the session. The kids had such a great time picking out trees, helping cut them down, and then, of course, hot cocoa afterward.

I actually photographed the Roberts’ family last year when I was doing a project for a photography class I was taking in college. This was before I started my business and one of the very first steps that pulled me in this direction. It is so fun to go back and see how much the children have grown.

And with that, here is our session….

November Favorites | Maine Lifestyle & Documentary Family Photographer

Hey guyssss!

The last couple months have been pure insanity over here so naturally I've missed at least last month's "favorites" post. And honestly, I don't think I took a single picture of my own kids all month because I was so busy between school and client sessions. I want to use my favorites of the month posts to showcase my personal work so in that regard, I guess there wasn't much of a point in doing a blog post for October. I know I'm a little early this month but it's close enough. Can you believe that it's almost December?!

My busy season is officially all wrapped up and my classes are wrapping up. I have a few more exams and big papers due before the end of the semester but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm excited to be able to relax and enjoy some down time with my kids.

Oh, don't forget about my Black Friday weekend sale is still going on until Monday, November 27th at 11:59pm. Save 10% off gift certificates or $50 off an in-home session booked for the month of December or January. This can apply towards holiday tradition sessions!

Holiday Tradition Sessions | Maine Family Documentary Lifestyle Photographer

The holiday season is upon us...

And I am beyond pumped. This is my favorite time of year and I'm excited to announce that I'm going to be booking "Holiday Tradition" family documentary sessions. Does your family have a special tradition that you would love to have photographed? This is for you. Whatever your tradition is, I want to be there to capture it. The things we do with our children are so, so special and hold so many memories. While we all snap pictures with our phones or cameras, imagine how much more special the day would be for your family if you could be 100% totally and completely immersed and present in the activity.

Anderson Newborn Session | Portland, Maine Lifestyle Photographer

maine in home newborn lifestyle photographer

In home sessions are quickly becoming my favorite types of sessions. It's kind of a vulnerable thing, letting a stranger into your home and into your life to capture it. But that's what makes them so amazing! Our homes are literally where our hearts are, so I find the images that I capture here are just elevated by that fact. Children are more comfortable in their own homes and I love getting to photograph them really in their element.

I am so, so excited to share some of my favorites from the Anderson's newborn session with you all today. I find that my in home & newborn sessions tend to yield a lot of images so this is a big share (you've been warned). The Anderson's welcomed their new son a week before our session and he weighed over 10lbs when he was born! My Lillian weighed in at 9lb 14oz and they were similar in their temperament as well. Calm, snuggly, sleepy. Maybe it's a big baby thing. Big sister Nora was absolutely adorable. She is such a good big sister and was so proud of "her baby". She brought her camera along too and we both took pictures of him together.

I hope you all enjoy the images as much as I do, leave some love & feel free to share.

Camping & Sparklers | Personal Share

Hey everyone!

I know it's a bit delayed but HEY here's some personal pictures from earlier this month. The 4th of July is probably our family's favorite holiday (except for Christmas. I am a Christmas maniac). Justin loves to buy lots of fireworks and I'm never mad because let's be real, fireworks are the funnest thing ever. He likes setting them off, the kids and I like watching them. It's a win-win. This year the 4th marks our one year anniversary in our house; almost to the day. So we decided kind of last minute to have some of our family over. My sister & niece came over early in the day and she and the kids played water balloons and did some crafty things. Justin smoked some brisket, we ate lots of delicious foods and then when it got dark, the fireworks started. My sister-in-law and her family came over and we had a lot of fun playing with sprinklers and watching the fireworks. Plans for next years show are already in the works and I have a feeling it's going to be quite the show.

I had the great idea that we should just spontaneously go camping the next day. Because we had such a busy 4th, we didn't really have time to go through our camping stuff and make sure we had everything we need. Generally, we go camping a couple times a summer so I kind of thought we didn't really need to check everything. Overall the trip was kind of a bust. I don't want to drag on about all the horrors but the first night we ended up eating dinner at 10pm and having to grab a hotel room. Yup. Camping, right? We were lacking some pretty essential camping equipment that we didn't realize and by the time we got to a town with a camping supply store it was too late to go back to camp and set up in the dark. The rest of the trip was actually pretty good despite the fact that the lake was so flooded the girls couldn't swim or play at the beach like we'd planned. We enjoyed playing board games and playing "Chopped: Camping Edition". We also went out to and did some moose safaris and managed to see some each night out.

Abby's Mommy & Me In Home Session | For Fun

Oh, I'm so excited to share this special little blog with you all today. This week I have been very busy with sessions and editing. But on Friday, between the 2 sessions I had scheduled that day, my youngest daughter came up to me and had a photo request. She would like to do a "Mommy and Me" session with her baby doll and she was hoping I could find time to do it. Of course, without hesitation I put down my laptop, grabbed my computer and off to my bedroom we went. She was absolutely thrilled that I was going to do this special session for her. She loves to play with my tripods and pretend that they are cameras. She will spend hours lining up her stuffies and dolls and playing photo session with them. I just love the way her mind works. It was so cute to watch her take care of her baby - she wanted REAL LIFE stuff she said. Seriously, I love her. I may be biased (yeh, I definitely am) but she's adorable and I thought these photos were so cute and funny I just had to share them.
