November Favorites | Maine Lifestyle & Documentary Family Photographer

Hey guyssss!

The last couple months have been pure insanity over here so naturally I've missed at least last month's "favorites" post. And honestly, I don't think I took a single picture of my own kids all month because I was so busy between school and client sessions. I want to use my favorites of the month posts to showcase my personal work so in that regard, I guess there wasn't much of a point in doing a blog post for October. I know I'm a little early this month but it's close enough. Can you believe that it's almost December?!

My busy season is officially all wrapped up and my classes are wrapping up. I have a few more exams and big papers due before the end of the semester but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm excited to be able to relax and enjoy some down time with my kids.

Oh, don't forget about my Black Friday weekend sale is still going on until Monday, November 27th at 11:59pm. Save 10% off gift certificates or $50 off an in-home session booked for the month of December or January. This can apply towards holiday tradition sessions!

July Favorites | Personal Share

I can't believe we're already halfway through August. My birthday is in about a week and a half, and the week after that school starts for both Lillian and I. I'm at the point in summer vacation where I'm constantly torn between wanting the routine back and not wanting vacation to end. We're trying to squeeze in a few more fun activities before summer leaves for good. Oh, and it's not just any birthday coming up; it's my 30th! To celebrate I may do something special so keep your eyes out on Facebook and Instagram

I've been meaning to put together monthly favorites for the past few months, but obviously I'm just now actually getting it done. July was fun and busy and here is my little grid of some of my favorite personal images from the month. (And let's all just pretend it's not already half way through August and I'm just getting these posted)

I also wanted to take a minute and share that I'm going to be taking on less client sessions this fall. Last fall was just a bit too much and I stretched myself a bit too thin. This fall is looking like it's going to be more chaotic with Abby going to kindergarten and how my college schedule is changing. I'm transferring to USM and will be taking all my classes in the classroom instead of online; not to mention I'm taking more classes than I ever have before. I'm not sure how my schedule is going to work out or how difficult it's going to be for me to juggle everything so I want to make sure that I don't put too much on my plate.

I have 1 slot left available in September and 2 left in October. I may make more available as I get used to our new routine, but I won't know that until I start classes. I appreciate everyone's support. If you're interested in booking a fall session, you can contact me at daniellelachancephotography@gmail.com or just click the button below.

Cote Extended Family Session | Southern Maine Photographer

Hey guys,

I am so excited to share these images with you all today. Katie was a winner in my New Years giveaway and after chatting we decided to extend the family session she won to include her and her husband's families. On the days leading up to the session, the weather was bouncing back and forth between being nice and raining on us. Thankfully, we lucked out and got some nice cooler weather. (Anything but rain, amiright!?) We met at a local beach which is always fun and quickly becoming my favorite place to go in the summer. Not any specific beach, any beach will do. The kids were all so well mannered and did such a great job. I was thoroughly impressed. They explored and played and were quick to come back to do portraits with their parents, grandparents, and great grandmother. Yes, you read that right. Their great Grammy was there for the pictures as well and honestly, my heart soars even now thinking about it. This woman was so full of life, laughter, and love and let me tell you - IT SHOWS! She has such a passion for life, it's truly inspiring. I hope that I can still have this much fun when I'm 92.

Ok, ok, enough talking! Here are the images from our session. Enjoy, share, leave some love!

Colangelo Mini Session | Maine Family Photographer

This morning I wanted to take a minute to share another session from my Mother's Day "Mommy & Me" mini sessions. We did the session in the morning at the Little River Flower Farm in Buxton, Maine. It's a beautiful farm that offers pick-your-own flowers and has a beautiful wedding site on location. They also do pick-your-own blueberries. And they should be ready right around July 4th! I can't wait to take the girls down there to pick our own everything!

Rumery Family Session | Maine Family Lifestyle Photographer

A couple weeks ago I met up with the Rumery family in Wells and we had some beautiful summery weather. This session will always hold a special place in my heart. Michael reached out about scheduling a surprise session for his wife, Mikayla as a Mother's Day gift. What a touching gift for a husband to give his wife. I am so honored to be a part of this special gift.

We walked the trails at Laudholm Farm which I underestimated the length. Little Brooklyn was such a champ the whole time and I'd be willing to bet she slept well that night! This family is just so full of love and they were such a joy to photograph. Here are some of the images from our time together. Feel free to share!

Dondero Mini Session | Maine Family Photographer

Hi everyone!

My Mommy & Me mini session date ended up getting rained out so I've been pretty busy rescheduling everyone and doing the make up sessions. It's been so much fun though. I've gotten to meet so many wonderful women and their children and I have been overwhelmed by the response to these minis. I love that so many women have decided to make getting in the frame a priority and I'm so happy that I'm able to give them and their children these memories. For these minis I'm going to do a sort of mini series of blog posts.

First up are the Dondero's.  I first met Jen and her kids last fall when they booked my fall mini sessions. I was so excited when she was one of the first people to sign up for this round of minis. We met at the Little River Flower Farm in Buxton, Maine first thing in the morning and the lighting was amazing. The property they have at the Little River flower Farm is absolutely beautiful. If you don't know about them, they are an organic flower farm and they offer pick-your-own flowers. AND they have pick-your-own blueberries as well. The owner, Nancy, let me know that their blueberries are actually ready for picking sooner than a lot of other local farms and are usually ready right around or shortly after July 4th! I can't wait to go and pick all the flowers and blueberries. Oh, and did I mention they also do weddings? They have the most gorgeous ceremony spot in the woods right up next to the river. It's seriously dreamy.

My favorite part of the sessions I did that morning ended up being what I was most nervous about.. the sun. It was a VERY sunny day and even though it was early, the sun was already pretty high in the sky. (This can make it difficult to do pictures as there are often very harsh shadows and squinty eyes) The trees on the property created the most beautiful shadows on the grass, and the dandelions and fallen petals just give it a very magical feel (or at least I think so!)

In Home Maternity Session | Maine Photographer

Hey guys,

How was everyone's April vacation? My family and I decided to take a last minute trip to the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. It was so nice to just get away for even a couple days. You don't always need to go far to relax. Once (if I ever) finish editing the pictures, I'll do a blog post sharing about our mini adventures.

I've had a lot of maternity sessions lately and it's amazing how different they all are. Just like with any other session, no two are alike. Recently, I did an in home maternity session with a really awesome family. They were so much fun and were totally ready to laugh, joke around, and have a fun time. I just loved it! Baby Myles is going to be a lucky little guy. Both kids are ready to be a big brother & big sister, and I'm sure they're going to teach  him all their fun games.

Oh and just a reminder that Mommy & Me mini sessions are coming up in about a week and a half. Did you see the blog post I wrote about them? If you missed it, you can see it here. There are still a couple spots available. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Mommy & Me Mini Sessions | Maine Family Photographer

Hi all!

As my newsletter subscribers already know, I'm excited to share that I'm offering Mommy & Me mini sessions in honor of Mother's Day! You heard right (sorry dads), mini sessions for just the mommas. Here's the rundown..

Saturday, May 6, 2017

$100 - 15 minutes - 5 digital images (with option to purchase more) - Print release

Buxton, ME

As mothers we have a lot of things in common and a lot of difference. We come in different sizes and styles, but one common thing that I think we all have in common is that we aren't in the frame enough. Sure, we are taking pictures of our children, our families, our lives, but how often are we actually in the pictures? We all have different reasons that this happens and a lot of the time, it's really not intentional. But I want you to think about the pictures from your childhood. How many pictures of your mother do you have? Chances are, not as many as you'd like.

It will be a day full of moms and their kids, making a conscious decision to capture these fleeting memories. When our children are grown, we'll be able to look back on this day and remember how we felt. A mother's love is a powerful and beautiful thing. Let's capture it together and savor these moments and freeze time for just a minute.

I created this cute little graphic with the basic details about the sessions. Feel free to share it around.

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.

Walker Family | Biddeford Maine Family Photographer

It may be too early to say this, but it feels like Spring is making it's way to Maine. Last week, the temperatures got into the low 50's a few different times. And it looks like more warm weather is coming next week. Keith Carson claims Winter isn't over yet and we shouldn't get attached to the high temps so I guess I'll just be cautiously optimistic.

We're all back in school now after February vacation. Unfortunately, most of our free week was spent at home because both girls had colds. We did manage to get out on Saturday to see the Lego Batman movie. It was a big hit. I love it when kids movies can be enjoyable for both the kids and the adults. Though, being honest, I love all kid movies. It's kind of ridiculous. My husband jokes that one of the main reason I had children was so I would have an excuse to go see kid movies in the theaters, haha. Definitely one of my favorite perks to motherhood.

I'm glad we got out when we did because that night, Lil and I both ended up getting a stomach bug. Thankfully, we're both feeling better now and I'm hoping that we're done with colds and stomach bugs for a while.

Last week, I met up with the Walker family at one of my new favorite spots in Biddeford. If you saw my story on snapchat, it was the stinky place. LOL. Seriously though, I don't think I've ever smelled anything so bad. The trail moves away from the marsh/ocean though so as soon as we got onto it, we escaped the smell. Note to self: Check the tides before scheduling sessions.

I wasn't sure how the trail was going to be so we all wore our rain boots. Which turned out to be a good decision. The trail was much snowier than I expected and there were multiple spots where the snow went up over the girls' boots. I felt so bad that their poor feet were getting wet and cold. We took our time getting to the end of the trail which was where we did most of the portraits with many stops to empty out boots. Those little girls were awesome. They made it down the whole trail which was just over a mile in & out. They're so beautiful and can we just pause for a moment and say THAT. HAIR. THOUGH. All 3 of them have the most gorgeous hair, I'm a bit envious.

Heading into March, I have a few spots available towards the end of the month.

Snow Days | Maine Family Photographer

Oh, snow days. I have a love/hate relationship with them. On one hand, I love snow days. They make my spontanous heart flutter with the possibility. No schedules, no rules, all fun. Except, that's not how they've been panning out in reality lately. Lately snow days are filled with my kids complaining about being BORED and arguing with each other. And the tattling. So. Much. Tattling. I'm sure all you moms with 5 year olds can feel me there.

The one saving grace is when I can send them outside to play in the snow. My children love to play outside and can usually manage to play nicely together building snow men, snow forts, and snow angels.

I was pretty unsure how what the weather was going to be like today so yesterday became our outside fun day. I spent the morning learning how to cross country ski with a close friend; which was awesome and I didn't fall. True story. Then I brought the girls to go sledding at Harris Farm where we met up with a couple other local families. Needless to say, it was the best day ever.

Thankfully, today was actually not too bad. Not too windy, not too cold. So after we dried the winter gear, out they went! Here are a couple I grabbed before heading back inside. I really need to get some snow pants.
